Consumer demand and confidence weakened, but these releases did not establish an economy-wide contraction because the current Q3 GDP nowcast remained positive. July retail sales fell 0.6% after June's unrevised 0.2% rise, and preliminary August sentiment fell 7.6% to 51.0, while the St. Louis Fed still nowcasts Q3 real GDP growth at 2.4% annualized, and the nowcast will revise as monthly data arrive.
